EUROSPRING PRE-TRIP WORKSHOP, SPRING '07

This purpose of this workshop is to prepare you for the life-changing journey you are about to take. We will be approaching everything from an interdisciplinary perspective, including history, geography, literature, culture and language, current events, etc. This will be an active, participatory workshop in which we will also work on your group dynamics and your skills as team members. Lastly, we will work on preparing you for documenting your experiences in a meaningful way.

Texts required:
*All the required textbooks for the courses for which you are registered at Oxford (please order these on-line or find in bookstores before the first class meeting)

*The Journey That Matters, ed. by Louise Mengelkoch and Alissa Pesta, 2d ed. (You should have received a copy of this book in the fall semester meetings.)

*International newspapers and magazines, as assigned.

*Copy of Shakespeare play you will be attending

Assignments:
*Create study guide and PowerPoint for one chapter (as assigned) from The Penguin History of Medieval Europe, by Maurice Keen, ISBN 01401 363 04
Study Guide should be about 500 words: Post to blog and make copies for class
PowerPoint should be no more than 10 slides, including visuals: Make copies for class

*Read Shakespeare play and be prepared for quiz

*Write report on other assigned textbooks. Bring to show them. Break up chapters among you.

*Easter Break Trips
Create a PowerPoint presentation with the following information:
How would you get to this destination? (methods of transport, prices, etc.)
What is there to see and do when you get there? Prices, etc.
Tell us a little about the history and culture, etc. of the place
Feel free to use photos, maps, etc.
Cite all your sources (use at least three)
Be sure to proofread!!! No more than about 8 slides, please.
